Today, I successfully negotiated my way on the door of the C.O.M.E (Comedy on Monday Evenings) gig at Zula Bar. It’s a good thing that I was able to otherwise a good friend of mine, Cara, would have been MozamBLEAK with me for missing her birthday party.
I had to do a bit of a reccie before I found the right person to negotiate with. First I tried to wangle with Laura at Zula Bar. But, sightly so, she told me that the door on a Monday goes to the comics, so I had to track them down.
I emailed gave me the Addy that Laura gave me, sharing my No Money Required project…Rustum replied saying that I was nuts enough to be put on the guest list! So it just goes to show, ASK AND YOU MAY JUST RECEIVE!!!!!

Why am I doing this competition?
On the 5th of May 2009 I began my experiment in abundance called NO MONEY REQUIRED.

But now, I find myself in a bit of a pickle…
In the last 3 and a half months I have been able to negotiate my way through each day, hustling for food, petrol and the small things that I need to get by. If I can’t organise by means of energy exchange, or if someone doesn’t choose to give me what I want or need I simply go without.
There is nothing wrong with that, I am learning a beautiful lesson in creativity and humility.
Unfortunately, when you start a 24 month contract with Vodacom, they don’t really care if you feel like going without making calls or not…they want their money!!!!!
I had hoped that I could build up my blog to a point where I could say ‘hey Vodacom, gimme my Talk500 Blackberry contract for free’ but I am not quite there yet. And, by the tone of their most recent letters, they are beginning to get serious about my outstanding bill getting paid.
I have until the 31st of August to pay exactly R4665.60 otherwise Vodacom is going to go legal on my ass!
SO THIS COMPETITION IS MY INGENIOUS WAY FOR VODACOM TO GET WHAT THEY ARE OWED WITHOUT ME SPENDING MONEY.

Firstly thanks so much for your support and interest in this story!
I have been lovingly criticised by some of my friends for not updating you guys regularly enough…especially on my blog. The thing is, so much has happened, and so much is happening all the time that I simply don’t know where to start…and I get caught up in the whole ‘is this interesting or not’ internal debate…very frustrating!
The other thing is that I find myself to be much more comfortable in a conversation with someone else, rather than sitting down and just writing.

Let’s start with the boring stuff – what about life insurance, retirement funding, insurance for your bike/scooter and medical aid.

Life Insurance – at the moment I don’t have that. I am open to sponsorhips of anything though, so if you know anyone in the industry, I would love to talk to them. Alternately, If you feel strongly that I should have Life Insurance then maybe we can talk about what I can do for you in exchange for you paying for a policy for me. You see, I don’t just want to bum…I want to find creative ways to get the things I need without money.
Retirement Funding – as above
Insurance for my scooter – my dad has taken it upon himself to insure my scooter bless his soul.
Medical Aid – As above. I currently go to the government clinic for my monthly medication.

Day to day – how are you manifesting food, clothing, toiletries, petrol

Mainly through energy exchange, but sometimes people just give me stuff because they know I like to help people.
Like the other day my friend John Wilson bought me groceries in exchange for me handing out flyers for his business. Here are some photos:

Another instance, I received some beer from someone I met at a picnic. He considered them leftover so he contributed them. I then traded those beers with my dad for petrol, the use of his car to pick up my little brother, some milk, an onion and 2 veggie burgers! Here are some photos:

The girl you met – where do you find money from to take her out or is she happy staying in watching tv or listening to music.

Well, unfortunately, the girl I met hasn’t materialised into anything romantic…so that hasn’t been an issue yet! At least I will know if a girl likes me it won’t be for my money!!!!!

I think that is the best thing I have gotten out of this…I am completely unnattached to everything and also totally grateful for everything too! It is impossible to have expectation living the way I am and that is exhilerating…completely in the moment!
